Pediatric Dentistry

Pediatric Dentistry in Sacramento, CA

The team at Sacramento Natural Dentistry believes that early dental care is essential to the promotion of lifelong oral health. Additionally, we know that early dental care can make or break a positive attitude toward dentistry. We love seeing children aged two and older. Our friendly team is also happy to provide information to parents of younger toddlers and infants whose teeth are developing.

We offer a number of treatments to keep teeth healthy and we gently repair damage such as cavities. Dr. Azouz has developed a special injection technique through which many of our patients do not even realize they have gotten a shot. If you want your child to receive high-quality dental care from a nurturing staff, you have come to the right place.

A lot of early dental care revolves around education. Children aged eight and under lack the ability to care for their own teeth properly. Therefore, pediatric dentistry involves a great deal of parental involvement. During routine exams and cleanings, we demonstrate for parents and our patients the brushing and flossing techniques that will minimize the risk of dental problems. We also encourage healthy oral care habits based on age.

When you join our practice, you will see and feel the difference. Quite simply, we love what we do and it shows.

A Note about Bottles

One of the major problems we see in pediatric dentistry is a condition known as bottle caries, which stems from using a bottle as a way to pacify a baby into sleep. Because of this common habit, we have seen an epidemic amongst bottle-nursed infants.

Ideally, babies should nurse only at their scheduled feeding time, whatever that may be. Giving a bottle of milk or juice to soothe a baby to sleep leads to sugar residue accumulating on teeth and gums. In the oral environment, sugar turns to acid, which can dissolve soft baby teeth.

Bottle caries are often not noticed until a few years of age, though the damage begins much earlier. It is common for a toddler to require extensive repair due to this dental problem. We strive to help patients enjoy oral health from the earliest possible age. Parents who consult with our team are encouraged to give only water in bedtime bottles or to find another way to lull the baby to sleep.
